Every leader needs to have a clear, concise objective that they focus on when planning and making decisions. Every decision, no matter how big or small, should work toward meeting that overall goal. As I like to say, it’s important to keep the main thing the main thing.
When I first came to BCCC, there was a sense of uncertainty about the future of the College shared by faculty and students alike. We all agree that BCCC is not just an institution of higher learning, but a place where we change the lives of students and motivate them to meet their goals. We want the community to see BCCC as a place of excellence – in order to make that happen, we must work together.
That’s possible if we focus on meeting our primary objective - putting students first! With every decision, we must ask ourselves, “What impact does this have on students?” If the decision has a negative effect on students, then ultimately, it does not benefit the BCCC community. Students should be the number one priority of everyone - BCCC faculty, staff and administrators. When my time as interim president has ended, I want BCCC to be enhanced – to be known for excellence! I want our faculty, staff and students to be proud of where they work, of where they go to school. You have said, and I agree, that BCCC is a place of endless opportunity. I want other people to see this too.
We can make important changes at BCCC to improve the overall condition and culture. I hope we will make people proud to be part of the BCCC community. Integrity and transparency must be at the forefront of my administration - Maintaining communication with BCCC faculty and students is crucial to being an effective president. I am certain as we move forward together, BCCC will again be seen for the enormous potential it offers its students.
One of the most effective ways we can be certain your voices are heard is by listening intently, communicating openly and speaking honestly with you. That brings us to Anderson Announces – With this blog, I hope we can become better acquainted with one another – you learn more about me, and I learn more about you. I also hope to communicate frequently with you through my Twitter, @AndersonAnnounces. I will “tweet” to keep you in-the-know on current happenings within the College and use Twitter as a means of better communicating with you.
I invite you to share your opinions and feel free to approach me with any concern or comment you may have. There is no question too big or too small and I will do my best to answer every one. I am interested in listening to what you have to say and knowing what’s on your minds. Together, let’s make BCCC the place of excellence! Say Yes if you agree!
All the best,
Dr. Carolyn Anderson
