The Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) Construction Supervision Program prepares students to serve as assistant project managers, construction supervisors or independent business owners in the construction industry. The curriculum provides experience and instruction in safety regulations, blueprint reading, construction methods, estimating, scheduling, operational procedures, effective communication, procurement and fiscal and business management. Students seeking a dynamic career in the construction industry can earn a degree or certificate.

Graduates are employed in the construction industry as assistant managers, construction superintendents, construction safety officers, or in similar categories, depending on which track they choose. They are prepared to work as supervisors on both residential and commercial projects.

Always check with an advisor to determine what courses to take. All BCCC students must meet the College’s computer literacy requirement in order to receive a degree or certificate. All students are required to complete the PRE 100 course within the first six credits. PRE 100 is an academic achievement preparation course earning one credit.

Students will learn to:

• Read blueprints and use this knowledge in quantity take off and construction materials and methods.
• Serve as line supervisors, using knowledge of construction contracts and documents on the construction site.
• Direct and manage construction productivity on a construction jobsite.

The degree option is designed for both experienced tradespeople and those with no prior knowledge of the construction trades. Students who complete the degree program are qualified to transfer to bachelor’s degree programs in construction management. The certificate option is ideal for workers who wish to upgrade existing skills or advance in their careers, as well as small business owners who are looking for additional training in a specific area. Both programs include mandatory individual study courses that provide students with excellent opportunities to complete internships in the construction industry. Special scholarships are available for qualified Baltimore City residents.
